ExportData tool overview

Data administrators can download a user's files from Connected through its web application. However, this process works best for retrieving only a small number of files for a specific user. To support both full and selective exports (based on file name or extension) for multiple users, Connected provides the ExportData tool. Because this tool provides access to the data of any user in your company, it either requires Data Admin or Bulk Exporter user credentials to run.

Tool highlights:

  • Provides two interfaces:

    • Command-line interface (CLI), which lets you automate exports.

    • Graphical user interface (GUI), which provides interactive exports.

  • Exports the backup data of up to 10 active or on-hold users at a time.

  • Lets you select which of a user's active devices to export.

  • Lets you specify folder paths present on user's devices to export.

  • Supports wildcard characters to limit exports based on file name, file extension, or both.

  • Stores exported data to a local disk, remote file share, or removable storage device.

  • Retains original folder structure of exported data.

  • Runs on the following platforms:

    • Any macOS, for the recovery of files from Mac-based backup devices.
    • Any 64-bit Windows OS, for the recovery of files from Windows-based backup devices.

NOTE: Currently, the tool does not provide cross-platform support for export of files from backup devices.

  • In Connected environments that support sync, also exports the Connected sync folder while exporting a user's backup data.

The export of sync data is automatic and occurs only when you export at least one of a user's devices. You cannot exclude sync data from exports.

  • Preserves the following during export: file name, folder path, date created, and date modified.

  • Provides detailed logs for auditing and troubleshooting.

  • Lets you resume interrupted exports.

You can download the ExportData tool from the Downloads page of the Connected web application. For detailed information about the tool's CLI or GUI, see ExportData CLI or ExportData GUI, respectively.
