Open a File Through MFDBFH

  1. In the Micro Focus Data File Tools window, select File > Data Explorer, or click Data Explorer icon (Data Explorer).

    The Data Explorer opens in the left-hand pane.

  2. Click Down arrow to the right of the default connection, select the required connection (datastore connections are prefixed sql://), and then click Reload (Reload); if a connection does not already exist, you need to create one:
    1. Click Down arrow and select Add Connection.

      The Data Source Settings dialog box is displayed.

    2. Click the MFDBFH tab.
    3. In the Micro Focus Native Database File Handling section, enter the connection details for the MFDBFH datastore:
      Note: The following details must be the ones that correspond to the details configured in the database configuration file that is in effect. The path to this file, which is determined by the MFDBFH_CONFIG variable, is displayed in the Configuration File field.
      • Server - the server or instance name that houses the datastore.
      • Datastore - the name of the datastore.
  3. In the Filter section, to initially filter the data sets that are retrieved, in the DSN Filter field, type a data set name filter (for example: MFIJCL.*.*.DATA). [1]
    Note: To further control filter behavior, use Disable Additional Qualifiers. Use this option to make catalog searching and filtering more consistent with the results produced on the mainframe. Check the option to disable the use of additional qualifiers when filtering the catalog results. For example, when checked, a filter of A.B would only return a data set of A.B. This option emulates the effect of disabling the 'Include Additional Qualifiers' option on the mainframe. When unchecked, a filter of A.B would return all data sets starting A.B (as if A.B** had been entered).
  4. Click Apply.

    The available files are displayed in the left-hand pane.

  5. Double-click the required file.

    The Open Data File dialog box appears.

  6. Complete the Open Data File dialog box, and then use the Data File Editor as you would for any other data file.
