How this Documentation Differs From Server Express 1.0
The documentation on this CD contains an updated version of the book set
provided with Server Express 1.0. These HTML books contain new information on
topics that are not applicable to earlier versions, and contain fixes for any
errors identified in the original versions of the documentation. The changes
contained in the HTML books are described in the following sections.
This document is cumulative, and lists changes since the original Server
Express 1.0 documentation.
Topics Added or Updated at 2.0.11 Service Pack 1
The following topic was updated for Server Express 2.0.11 Service Pack
1:
- Debugging. An advanced remote debugging facility and a new way of
controlling cross-session debugging were added. See the chapter Debugging
Methods in your Debugging Handbook for further information.
- The Rebuild utility. This has been enhanced to improve performance.
See the chapter Rebuild in your File Handling book for
further information.
- File Handler. The default location for the configuration file has
been changed, and the default setting for the configuration option READSEMA has
been changed. See the chapter File Handler Configuration in your
File Handling book for further information.
- Client/Server Binding. This topic has been moved from the
Communications book to the Distributed Computing
book. The Communications book has been removed from the
documentation set. In addition, the Client/Server Binding environment variables
MFCSCFG and MFLOGDIR have been added to Appendix A of your User's
Guide.
- File status codes. These have been removed from the File
Handling book. They are now documented in the Error
Messages book only.
Topics Added or Updated at 2.0.11
The following topic was updated for Server Express 2.0.11:
- Additional facilities for using Java and COBOL components together in
a distributed computing environment. On some platforms multiple JVMs are now
supported. You can have parameters passed BY REFERENCE updated by the called
program. You can pass Java data to COBOL data structures. See your
Distributed Computing book for information about using Java and
COBOL together.
The following topic was added to the books for Server Express 2.0.11,
and is not relevant to earlier versions of Server Express:
- Using your own C-ISAM file handling routines. See your File
Handling book for information on this topic.
Topics Added at 2.0.10
The following topic was added to the books for Server Express 2.0.10,
and is not relevant to earlier versions of Server Express:
- Using Java and COBOL components together in a distributed computing
environment. You can now call procedural COBOL from Java, call Object COBOL
from Java, and call Java from Object COBOL. You can also call Java classes and
methods from procedural COBOL using the Java Native Interface, and can generate
an Enterprise JavaBean from a COBOL class. See your Distributed
Computing book for information about using Java and COBOL together.
Topics Removed at 2.0.10
The following topic was removed from the books for Server Express
2.0.10:
- Support for Object Request Broker Technology. This was documented in
the book ORB User's Guide
Topics Added at 2.0
The following topics were added to the books for Server Express 2.0, and
are not relevant to earlier versions of Server Express:
- 64-bit programming. If your UNIX platform supports the execution of
64-bit applications, then Server Express 2.0 for that platform is installed
with both a 32-bit version and 64-bit version of the Server Express development
and run-time systems. This enables you to write programs that can be run on
both 32-bit and 64-bit systems, and to migrate applications from 32-bit systems
to 64-bit systems. The chapter Working in 32-bit and 64-bit Modes in
your Server Express User's Guide describes how to use Server
Express in 32-bit mode or 64-bit mode. The chapter Creating 64-bit
Programs in your Programmer's Guide to Writing Programs
describes how you create a 64-bit program.
- Prototyped library routines. The COBOL library routines now make use
of CALL prototyping. For information, see the chapter Library Routines
in your Programmer's Guide to Writing Programs.
- File Control Description (FCD) for 64-bit programming. See the
chapter File Handler API in your File Handling book for a
description of this FCD (known as FCD3).
- Licensing for 64-bit systems. See your Managing Application
Server Licenses with AppTrack for Application Server licensing, and
your License Management Facility Administrator's Guide for
development system licensing.
- New options for the Header-to-COPY Utility. See the chapter
Header-to-COPY Utility in your Programmer's Guide to Writing
Programs.
Topics Added at 1.1
The following topics were added to the books for Server Express 1.1, and
are not relevant to earlier versions of Server Express:
- FaultFinder Listing Generator, described in the chapter
FaultFinder in your Debugging Handbook
- Scan64, described in the chapter Scan64 in your
Debugging Handbook.
- COBOL BS2000 Dialect, described in the chapter Siemens BS2000
COBOL Syntax Support in your Language Reference - Additional Topics
