Open an Enterprise Server Data Set through ESCWA

Before you start, you must ensure that the enterprise server region is running; additionally, if you are connecting to a remote region, you must set the CCITCP2 environment variable in your environment to the IP address of the machine on which the region resides, and a Fileshare server must be running within the region.

This process allows you to work with multiple catalogs at the same time: connecting to an ESCWA service potentially gives access to each Micro Focus Directory Server associated with the service, and in turn, access to each catalog for the regions within each directory server. If you are connecting using SSL, you need to add both the ESCWA endpoint and each region's endpoint that you need to work with to your Certificate Authority Trust Store, because Micro Focus Data File Tools needs to connect to a region directly, to ENQ/DEQ the data set.

In the Micro Focus Data File Tools window, select File > Data Explorer, or click (Data Explorer).
The Data Explorer opens in the left-hand pane.
Click and select Add Connection.
The Data Source Settings dialog box is displayed.
Click the ESCWA tab.
In the Enterprise Server Common Web Administration section, enter the connection details for the ESCWA service:
1. In the Host field, type the network name or IP address of the ESCWA service containing the enterprise server region that houses the required data set.
2. In the ESCWA Port field, enter the port number.
3. If the connection is via SSL, check Use SSL.

In the Authentication section, if ESCWA has an external security manager enabled, type the ID and password for a user that has access to the data set you intend to edit. If ESCWA does not have an external security manager enabled, do not enter any details in these fields.
Tip: before you connect to ESCWA, you can test your connection details: click Test.
Click Apply.
If you are connecting to an unsecured server, an 'Insecure Connection' warning is displayed. See the Use SSL option above to connect securely.

The directory server associated with the ESCWA service are displayed in the Data Explorer.
If an external security manager is also enabled at the directory server and/or region levels, at each point that requires additional credentials, click (Settings), enter the required credentials, then click Logon. After which, you can expand a node of an enterprise server regions that you have permission to view to display the catalog associated with that region.
Expand the required region node to display the catalog. If you only want to display a subset of the data sets in the catalog, click (Filter), then in the Filter dialog box, type a data set name filter (for example: MFIJCL.*.*.DATA) and click Confirm.
Tip: To further control filter behavior, use Disable Additional Qualifiers. Use this option to make catalog searching and filtering more consistent with the results produced on the mainframe. Check the option to disable the use of additional qualifiers when filtering the catalog results. For example, when checked, a filter of A.B would only return a data set of A.B. This option emulates the effect of disabling the 'Include Additional Qualifiers' option on the mainframe. When unchecked, a filter of A.B would return all data sets starting A.B (as if A.B** had been entered).
To open a data set, double-click it from the list displayed underneath the region node.
The Specify Fileshare Name dialog box appears.
Note: If you specified a database-hosted data set, this dialog box is not shown, and you can skip the next step.
If you are opening a data set on a remote enterprise server region, in the Fileshare Server section, check Use Fileshare, type the name of a Fileshare server running on the remote region, and click OK. (If the enterprise server region is on this machine, you do not need to enter any details: clear Use Fileshare and click OK.)
The Open Data File dialog box appears.
Complete the Open Data File dialog box as you would for any other data file, then use the Data File editor, again, as you would for any other data file.

Note: Structure files must be stored locally; therefore, if you open a remote data set, you must select any required structure file for it each time the data set is opened.

Tip: If you want to remove an existing connection from the Data Explorer, click Settings icon

(Settings) to the right of the connection name, and then on the Data Source Settings dialog box, click Delete.
