6.6 Deploying a Nutanix VM

Pre-requisite

Download the .ova file from the SLD or another available source. Extract the .ova file to access the .mf, .ovf, and .vmdk files.

Deploying a Nutanix VM

Complete the steps in Table 6-6 for each appliance:

1 - Access Nutanix Environment.

 

  1. To access the Nutanix Prism web console, log in to Nutanix Prism using your credentials.

  2. For deploying Filr, the user needs to create an image.

Home Page

Click the Settings icon on the right corner and click Image Configuration.

Click Upload Image.

 

  1. Enter the desired name in the Name space and upload the .vmdk file. For the remaining fields, default setting is recommended.

  2. Click Save.

 

2 - Create a New VM.

  1. Click VM from the drop-down list next to Nutanix_oes.

  2. Click +Create VM.

Under General Configuration, specify Name and Description, and select the Timezone.

 

Memory Configuration

Compute Details

Recommended values:

  • vCPU(s) - 4

  • Number Of Cores Per vCPU - 1

  • Memory - 20 GB

 

Disk Configuration

Disks

Remove the predefined disks if available and add 3 new disks.

Disk 1

Add disk 1 to upload the Image.

  1. Click + Add New Disk.

  2. In the Operation list, click Clone from Image Service.

  3. In the Image list, click the image file you created in the Create Image step, and default values are recommended for the remaining fields.

  4. Click Add.

Disk 2

Add disk 2 for Vastorage.

  1. Click +Add New Disk.

  2. In the Size (GIB) box 150 and for the remaining fields the default setting is recommended.

  3. Click Add.

Disk 3

Add disk 3 for Varstorage.

  1. Click +Add New Disk.

  2. In the Size (GIB) box 200 and in the remaining fields the default values are recommended.

  3. Click Add.

 

Network Configuration

NOTE:Ensure the following, before configuring the network.

  1. Assign a network interface to the VM.

  2. Ensure that the VM connects to a network with access to required services and devices.

Network Adapters(NIC)

Click +Add New NIC.

  1. In the IP Address box enter your IP address and default values are recommended for the remaining fields.

  2. Click Add.

Create VM

Click Save.

 

2 - Configure the Filr Appliance.

 

Power on the Filr VM

VM Home Page

  1. Click Table.

  2. Right-click newly created VM and click Power on.

    NOTE:The red dot indicates the VM is off and the green dot indicates the VM is on.

  3. Right-click newly created VM and click Launch Console.

Filr Appliance Passwords and Time Zone

  1. Enter the password and NTP server details and click Next.

  2. Enter Network details, and click Next until Filr Appliance Shared Storage Type dialog box appears.

  1. If you want to use Multi-Appliance Deployment, select Remote NFS or Remote CIFS based on your requirements.

    If you want to use All-in-One Deployment, select No Remote Storage.
